What is the Natural Organic Refrigerant OS-12a?
OS-12a is a blend of purified R600a and R290, these are two natural hyrdrocarbon refrigerant gases. The blend of OS-12a has been specifically designed for the Automotive, Transport, Mining and Agriculture airconditioning systems as a complete drop in replacement for CFC-12 and HFC-134a.
OS-12a's initial boiling point of -34 degrees celcius offers maximum cooling in
high ambient applications.
OS-12a, a hydrocarbon blend refrigerant has been proven to be an environmentally safe refrigerant with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP=0) and near zero global warming potential (GWP=3 ) compared to that of HFC-134a that has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP=0) but with a high global warming potential (GWP-1300)
OS-12a offers a similar volumetric capacity as CFC-12 enabling the use of CFC-12 compressors without any change due to similar thermodynamic properties as those of CFC-12.
Compatibility with mineral lubricant
After thousand hours of heavy load test, autocalve test with several lubricants in domestic refrigerators and test rigs, no problem was found in all parts of a compressor and no degradation of mineral oil was shown. Also OS-12a is fully compatible witha mineral oil of IO viscosity grade 22 or 32 which is available from any local vendor. OS12-a is also compatible with PAG and PAO automotive oils.

Economic benefit in operation and maintenance
The mass flow rate of OS-12a in refrigeration equipment is lower than that of CFC-12 and the amount of charge is reduced by 65% as compared to CFC-12 and HFC-134a.
High Energy Efficiency
OS-12a provides 3.5% higher COP than CFC-12.
Safety evaluation of flammable refrigerants
The probability of fire or explosion caused by a leakage of ignited hydrocarbon refrigerant that could cause harm is presumed to be 3 out of 10 million cars in a year. The probability of a car accident that is caused by fire in the passenger compartment is presumed to be 1 in 10 million cars in a year. Whether the leakage of refrigerant is naturally caused or by a car accident the leakage would be in the engine bay where heat would evaporate the refrigerant before ignition. In comparing OS-12aand HFC-134a, HFC-134a will also burn if ignited under pressure and will produce a toxic gas
The warranty on the Super Chill range of refrigerants is for a twelve month period from the date of installation of the product. OS-12a with its combination of excellent lubricant carrying properties and the lower operating pressures ensure long compressor life and plenty of cold air from the vents.
